During my vocational training year in orthodontics, one of my many roles was performing pre-treatment extractions on young patients.
I remember thinking about all I’d learned in dental school about preserving teeth, wondering if I’d recommend the same course of action for my two children, and feeling as though young people deserved a kinder approach.
The experience led me down a career-long path of research into functional orthopaedics. I’ve since successfully treated many young people whose parents were told by other dentists that they would need teeth extracted before beginning treatment.
And by giving families accurate, reliable information, I’ve helped many young people avoid a lifetime of problems and expensive dental appointments.
